T-Countdown Post Type
Activating the plugin will create a new T-Countdown post type shown here. The T-Countdown post type will be located near the bottom of the admin menu. All aspects of the actual T-Countdown event are created, managed and scheduled in this area. The display options of the countdown, such as countdown style, unique titles for days, minutes, hours, etc is handled either in the sidebar widget or the defined using shortcode attributes.

Launch Cycle - Once the current countdown launches, how long to pause, displaying any launch target content, before starting the next countdown cycle.
The [tminus] Shortcode
The [tminus] shortcode is used to place a countdown in a post or page. The only required attribute is one that assignes a t-countdown event post such as cid, cslug or cname:[tminus tid="173"/]. A complete list of shortcode attributes are listed below.
cID/cSlug/cName Attribute
A t-countdown launch event must be assigned in the shortcode using one of the following attributes:
[tminus cid="173"/]
Countdown ID. The post ID of the t-countdown event to use[tminus cslug="super-cool-countdown"/]

Countdown Name. The post name/title of the t-countdown event to use
ID Attribute
[tminus cid="173" id="new-years-eve"/]
A unique ID for the countdown element. If the id attribute is not defined, a unique, random number will be assigned.
Title Attributes
The following attributes can be used to replace default unit titles:
[tminus cid="173" weeks="woche"/]
Weeks attribute replaces the default title for ‘weeks’[tminus cid="173" days="tage"/]
Days attribute replaces the default title for ‘days’[tminus cid="173" hours="stunden"/]

@pedro david: Just checked out your site, and you are correct… there seems to be something going on with the time. Will look into that, thank you.
I do not have any other form of t(-) countdown installed. I get the following error upon trying to activate it:
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare class RW_Meta_Box_Taxonomy in /home/content/40/8806940/html/craigerickson/wp-content/plugins/t-countdown-control/t_minus_countdown.php on line 205
Any ideas?
@Josh: Good one! Yes… and thank you for the feedback. We will release a fix in the next hour, so there’s that… Great timing, by the way, as we are about to launch version 1.0 of this premium plugin. This kind bug report of yours added you to our gets-it-for-free list. Yay.
@Josh: v1.0RC1 is available for download, and should resolved any conflicts with other plugins. Please let us know if this works for you.
It worked! Thanks for the FAST fix! I am looking forward to being on the “gets-it-for-free” list
. I’ll post any other issues if they arise. Thanks again.
@Josh: Right on! That’s what we like to hear.
dont know why, but suddenly it work
Hello Baden, your t minus it is great, i love it, i download the t-minus but what i really need its the tminus control, but cant use it, until i read one post about the same problem, then i deactivated the t minus and that solve the problem
but i wan to use four tminus count down control, and i do, but just the last one work, the other dosnt, and i dont know why, can you please help me?
im testing it on
http://2filos.com/wordpress/
Is there any way to set up a schedule like every 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month? If not, please consider it a feature request
Thanks a lot!!!
I’ll try. How can I set such schedule up?
Hello,
When I try to run it together with jQuery T(-) Countdown (2.0.9), I get this message.
Can you help me. Waht I want to achieve is that the timer will countdown until every Tuesday 19:00 and then restart. Is it possible with this plugin?
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare countdown_style() (previously declared in /var/www/virtual/pilkawstasiu.cba.pl/wp-content/plugins/t-countdown-control/t_minus_countdown.php:470) in /var/www/virtual/pilkawstasiu.cba.pl/wp-content/plugins/jquery-t-countdown-widget/countdown-timer.php on line 79
@Pawel: Yes, this is possible with t-countdown control, however, you can not use BOTH the t-minus countdown WIDGET and t-minus countdown CONTROL. Delete the widget plugin.
same error than pawel, thank you baden for the answer
Ik vind deze toch het beste. Heb je al een manier gevonden om de breedte aan te passen. Kijk ff op mijn site Ajax1.nl.
@Henk Willems: Ah! you are using the widget in the sidebar! Ok, to adjust the size you will need to basically create a custom countdown style.
1. Edit the background image to fit your skinny sidebar.
2. Edit the CSS to fit the background image / skinny sidebar.
Best of luck.
@Henk Willems:
Width Attribute:
[tminus cid="173" width="300"/]The pre-launch width in px of the countdown – default is ‘auto’.
Second ticker is going way too fast. What’s going on here? It’s almost like 3/4 of a second rather than a real second.
link?
I want to only show days, no min/hr/sec etc. IS that possible?
@Joshua: It is possible. You will need to add display:none to the min, hours, sec definitions in the style.css file of the countdown.
Working well, Thanks !
It’s counting down BUT the count is not correct. It should be about 29 weeks but instead it’s 48 weeks. It doesn’t seem to matter what month I insert–it still says 48 weeks. Link: http://www.2012celebrateconvention.com/registration/
@Glenda: What short code are you using?
I’ve got this loaded on my site and all seems to be working. Thanks. www.catalystchurch.cc
One more thing.
It would be great if the widget Title could change when the the countdown triggers, e.g. “Next Live Broadcast” could change to “Broadcast in Progress Now”, then back again when the counter resets.
@Nicholas Batik: We’ll look into the disappearing meta-box issue. Thank you for this feedback.
As for your other issues, it would be very helpful if you where to include a link to the page.
The shortcode should execute properly. Some reasons it may not work:
- using the Visual Editor rather than the HTML Editor
- Smart Quotes are encoding your ” and/or * into fancy single and double quotes
- A javascript error on your site
- you are including the entire php to check if the function exists, not just the [audio] short code
- 20 other reasons
As for the title change, currently you can change only the upper, lower and entire widget area. You can, however, also redirect to another page on launch. This would allow you to create two pages, one in countdown mode, and one in launch mode that the countdown will automatically redirect to if the show is in flight.
We’ll keep in mind the option to swap the countdown’s title on launch for a future release.
Oops, code got dropped out. Code to add player to the sidebar is a simple function call:
if (function_exists("insert_audio_player")) {insert_audio_player("[audio:http://www.domain.com/path/to/song.mp3");
}
I tried the Exec-PHP widget but that only seems to work with Text Widgets.
Hi, I love the jQuery T(-) Countdown plugin, I have used it on a couple of my sites. Now I’m doing something a little more complicated, and I think T(-) Countdown Control is what I need.
I have a radio program that comes on once a week. The radio station has a continuous streaming channel 7/24. I want a countdown timer to monday 6PM US Mountain Time, then displays the streaming audio player for one hour, then displays a countdown to the next week’s show.
The countdown timer is working great, and it restarts the way I want.
There is one minor bug on the admin side – when I select Countdown Type: Recurring, the metaboxes for Countdown Cycle, and Recurring Launch Schedule appear. As soon as I click Update, or if I re-edit a Countdown, those metaboxes are gone. I have to click on Single Shot, then Recurring again to make them reappear.
The audio player is another problem. I chose Launch Target: Entire Content, and put the audio player shortcode in the text box. When the timer cycles, it displays the shortcode rather than executing the shortcode.
I added support for sidebar shortcodes in my functions file:
add_filter(‘widget_text’, ‘do_shortcode’);
but that doesn’t make any difference.
I am using the Audio Player plugin (http://wpaudioplayer.com/) because it was the only one I found that correctly handled streaming audio. If you or someone else has a better way to do this, please let me know.
In the documentation for Audio Player, it says to add a player to the sidebar use:
Any chance T(-) Countdown Control has a way to add executable code, or can do shortcodes?
I really love this plugin. Please keep working on it.
Hello again. We are using Ozh Admin Dropdown Menu plugin, and it was discovered that when the dashboard is launched in IE while both Ozh and your countdown plugin are enabled, the whole dashboard and wysiwyg editor are screwed up. Not sure why they conflict with each other, but they definitely do, but only in Internet Explorer. Everything looks fine in Firefox.
Ok, sorry to fill up your comments this morning.
… In the CSS, under “.jedi-dashboard”, changing the width attribute there gives the desired effect. I think we’re all good now on the one-liner effect… Now just to figure out why it’s showing the timer based on local computer time rather than the wordpress-configured timezone.
Thanks again! This plugin is great, and exactly what I was hoping for, with the exception of the time being wrong for our Arizona visitors.
Actually, I spoke too soon. For some reason, the seconds are now on their own line. Not seeing anything in the CSS to make it do that…
And regarding the one-line countdown, thanks for that link… Removing clear: left; from the css did the trick!
Thanks for the quick response.
Regarding the time, I actually tested this by changing my computer’s system clock and refreshing the page, and the hour changed instantly. It’s most certainly pulling the time from the local system clock.
Hello… I’ve implemented this on our site, and love the look of it. However, we’ll have people wanting to tune into our live feed from all over the country (and possibly internationally), and it looks like the countdown forces itself to count based on the end-user’s system time. Is there any way to input a timezone so we can have the timer be accurate wherever someone is coming from?
I understand the javascript is client-side, but since WordPress is PHP, I thought perhaps it might be possible… perhaps read the timezone configured in the WordPress settings somehow?
Another thing that I’m wondering about is putting all the numbers on one line. I’ve excluded weeks, since it’ll be a weekly countdown, so now “Days” is on a line by itself… it would look better if it could all be all together.

Thanks,
Matt S.
@Matt Schlueter: Hi. Glad you are enjoying T(-) Countdown Control. As this is a more advanced version of the jQuery T(-) Countdown Widget much of the way the countdown calculates time/look-n-feel is the same.
1. Timezone: The Timezone is set by WordPress in the Dashboard under Settings > General > Timezone > Local time is. This is the date and time that the plug-in is using to calculate the countdown.
2. A single like css has been asked for many times. We will certainly include this in the official release of this plugin. However, in the mean time check out the comment section of the jQuery T (-) Countdown Widget–like this one: http://www.twinpictures.de/jquery-t-minus-2-0/comment-page-4/#comment-1212
@Baden: Awesome! Nope, no other problems so far. I’ll let you know if I run into anything. Thanks again for the help!
@Matt: Introducing Launch Page Redirect URL:
1. Select Page Redirect as your Launch Target
2. Enter a valid URL in the Redirect URL field that will magically apear before your very eyes
3. Bibbity bobbity… Bob’s your uncle
@Baden: This is actually for the iPhone/iPad so I can’t embed the video…so redirecting would be the only option.
Currently I have it displaying a link to the live feed, which works okay, but it would be nice to take out that step for the user.
@Matt: Ah so! OK. Check for an update in the next hour. Other than this, how has the plugin been performing for you? No other bug-reports, comments, alpha related issues…?
Loving the plugin, thanks so much for sharing! Is there any way to redirect to a url once the countdown expires?
I am counting down to a live video stream & it would be nice if the viewer was redirected automatically while on the page, or during the specified Cycle Unit Value.
@Matt: Redirecting… that sounds like a very interesting idea. Currently there is no way to redirect, however you could actually replace the countdown with the live video stream on launch. Do you really need to jump to a new page, or will the replace countdown option work for you?
Yes I did and no I didn’t by accident
But I did do a uninstall and reinstall the proper way and still having the same problem.
Is there any way to drop all of the database tables these plugins create and start anew? I know WordPress creates independent tables of its own such as recently added items and such but could I just drop the plugin tables completely and start over? I noticed that when I delete the plugins there is one reference to countdown styles that stays.
Even when I drop that table manually I still get the problem. I have deactivated my other plugins to be sure there were no conflicts as well.
What if I changed that reference number 71 in the database? Or deleted it?
Not a real database wizard so I can’t be sure.
Thanks for trying to help, just a little frustrated that I can’t fix this. I’m usually pretty good at fixing problems on my own.
Rob
Hello Baden,
It’s not on a page, it’s in the plugin manager area I get this error. I can activate each one independently but can’t have both activated at the same time. That’s when I get the error. I think it was caused by me mistakenly activating just the control and started entering my settings and realized I did not have jQuery T(-) Countdown activated. That’s when the problems started. When I went to activate jQuery T(-) Countdown with the settings already tampered with in Control I get the error.
Something about re declaring. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail. I think something is basically “stuck” in the database not allowing me to re declare.
Thanks for your quick response,
Rob
@Rob: “If the jQuery T(-) CountDown plugin is installed, please deactivate before installing T(-) Countdown Control.” – Did you not read that on the page above?
Can someone help me? I know I did something wrong and screwed up the database somehow. I have the plugin installed for the widget option and it works fine.
But when I try to activate the countdown control I get a fatal error.
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare countdown_style() (previously declared in /home/lowcoun1/public_html/wp-content/plugins/jquery-t-countdown-widget-v2.0.75/countdown-timer.php:71) in /home/lowcoun1/public_html/wp-content/plugins/t-countdown-control/t_minus_countdown.php on line 470
Any ideas? Hope you can help because this is an awesome plugin!
Thanks,
Rob
@Rob: Can you send a link to the problem page in question? Also, do you have BOTH the jQuery T(-) Countdown AND Countdown Control installed?
Hi, Is it possible to put all the countdown elements in 1 line (days-hours-minutes-seconds)?
@Ramir: Once the function is bug-free, we are going to focus on the adding the ability to manage all visual aspects of the countdown. In the mean time, you can put all elements on one line by editing the css file of the style being used. You will need to remove the ‘clear: left’ on some of the digit definitions.
First of all: nice plugin!
I’ve just started using it, and have a suggestion already (more will probably come, unless the plugin works completely flawlessley):
Timers that have no title are not shown in the list of timers, whilst they are added in the database as concepts.
@Jesper: Excellent! The next update will only show named countdowns in the widget select box. Thank you.
Hey B!
Getting a kooky issue:
The timers are working smoother, but, say I create a countdown and then use it.
After a few days or so after the “recur” launch of the countdown, it just stops
counting down.
So, then I try using another countdown that I prev created, but do go/ It shows the correct countdown time, but it does not count down.
BUT, if I created an entirely brand new countdown, it works fine.
It is like, the countdown timers only work for so long.
I would like to create a few timers, use them as needed without having to delete them
delete them and create another.
In fact, I tried just re-saving the countdowns but no go either.
But it works fine IF I just create a timer from scratch that recurs in a week, use it once,
then it will launch perfect, on time, launch the “recur” timer, on time with the correct time left (usually a week later in my testing). And THAT timer will count down fine for a few days, but if I come back to it after that…it stops counting down.
So then I have to delete that timer, create another with the exact info as the old and use that timer. Then it counts down fine.
Thx.
Ok… I didn’t change anything and today it’s working flawless on IE9 and FF6… it was messed up on the 6th and 7th as well… but today it’s fine. So odd… does it reference any external libraries that you updated or something?
@Brent: Nope, no external funny business going on… as far as YOU know, anyway (Wocka Wocka.) Please shoot us a URL and we can dig a little deeper into what is causing this peculiar behavior.
Ok, I stand corrected… I’m seeing this behavior in FF6 as well now. Totally confused…
coundown cycle is 10 sec and recurring launch is 60 sec… it stays on the target and flashes the clock every 12 seconds or so… any browser.
Hey Baden! First off… I LOVE your sense of humor. Now on to business:
If you remember me, I’m the one who was asking on the T(-) CountDown plugin if we could get a recurring schedule feature. I see you are in the midst of this project, so I installed to test.
I found FF6 is working well… IE9 (even in compatibility mode) works the first time down, then shows the content, then doesn’t go back to the timer properly, rather it just flickers on every few seconds and back to the target content the rest of the time. I’m well aware IE is… well… IE. But since the hefty majority of users still use IE, hopefully this can be resolved? You can see it here: http://cedarcreek.tv/dev
Any idea?
Also, for us to use this, we’d need the ability as you discussed above with Reuben to have a schedule that looks like… Sat 5:15p, 7p, Sun 9a, 10:45a, 12:30p, Tues 7p, 9p, Wed 12p… etc… so it would have to be the same timer on the page, but with a very differeing schedule. Perhaps a grid style (click the boxes) scheduling system would work better than a text line input style. Not sure, just a thought. But I guess going grid would eliminate the fine-tuning ability of a text line input to pick… say… 5:07:30p vs 5:00p or 5:15p.
Thanks for all you do and hopefully this will meet our future needs! Currently we have a flash based timer on http://www.cedarcreek.tv but it’s not visible to iOS users (I am Jack’s sense of Apple’s irrational Flash stubbornness), so I’d love to see something like this in the future if we can make it work.
I like the looks and abilities of the plugin, but am having a little trouble implementing.
I am running WP 3.1.2 and testing out the plugin on a Test page of a clone site: http://184.172.246.188/~devsite/main/test-page/. The timer appears, but does not countdown. On refresh, it updates properly but still does not move.
I’ve already done the standard Deactivate/Reactivate all other plugins – no dice.
Does this have something to strtotime box. I read the reference page, but am still unsure what should be in this box – it is currently empty.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
@Tim: First, you might want to read this comment. That should give you a few tips on how to trouble shoot this very common problem.
Are you sure you need the T(-) Countdown Control and not just the jQuery T(-) CountDown plugin?
The strtotime is used for things like
+5 minutesFor a fixed time and date, you will not need to use this field.
Let us know if you get stuck and we will try and help you further.
…also…seems to be: the larger the countdown cycle is set to, the larger error of
when the timer should recur.
eg: I have a timer set to launch @ 5:45 with a cycle of 90 mins, the recur launch is off by approx a day.
But when I set that timer to cycle in 270 minutes, the recur launch is off by a few days.
@Reuben: Will look into this in the next day or two. Thanks for the feedback!
Ok.
Per above issue. It did it again.
I have a timer that is set to launch every Fri @ 5:45a. (Weekly) with the countdown
cycle set to 90 minutes.
I initially launched it on : 2011-08-19 05:45:00 (Last Fri )
And that timer now says that the next launch date/time is: 2011-08-25 05:45:00
which is a day short.
Thx.
@B.
Nice Bro !!
fyi: 04a. works fine.
I had a weird timer issue but I will re-test and see if it is still doing it.
The issues was, I had a timer set to occur @5:45a hold for 90 minutes, then reset
itself to happen in a week. But the timer reset itself it happen in a week + 3 days.
Weirdness.
I will delete the timer and create another since it was a timer from .01a.
r
B, You know what would be cool! ?
The ability to use a recurring custom schedule type that is actually
another “T(-) Countdown” !
So, I would set up a “T(-) Countdown” recurring schedule, it would count down as usual,
then instead of it recurring for weekly, daily, etc….. it would use the schedule of another
“T(-) Countdown” schedule that I setup in advance.
This comes in handy if I want to have a recurring schedule that recurs on wed@7p, fri@6am and Sunday @10:30 and Sunday again @12:30.
Otherwise, it would have to allow me to pick and choose days and times throughout the week.
Ya know?
@Reuben: Yup. This is next on the list, basically to create a t-countdown that is the master ‘container’ and then create a list of sub-countdowns under it that play in sequence. The hard part will be building in fail-safes if the user thinks time-travel is possible. In the mean time, please run .04a through it’s paces and see if it performs as expected.
@ B
Cool !!
WooHoo !!!!
Thx B!
oooh….maybe a bit of ajax to smooth out the fading between the initial launch and then
resetting and displaying the new date/time countdown.
@Reuben: Glad to hear you got the scheduling figured out. Once a recurring countdown launches, any launch html will be displayed in the launch target the duration set in the launch cycle. This means that the launch html will be displayed even on page refresh. However, the launch html will not currently transition automatically to the next countdown w/o refresh. This is something we are working on for the beta, for ultimate recurring countdown pleasure.
Ok. I think I see the issue.
The initial Launch, automatically refreshes whatever HTML that is suppose to
be displayed, but on the recurring, I have to refresh the post/page manually to see the new
countdown again.
I see.
Is there a way to have that refresh on the recurring launch?
Thx.
Update, I even treied setting to Daily, with countdown cycle set to 5 minutes.
Still didn’t go back to the Countdown.
See ya in the morning.
Thx.
Thx for everything.
Got this version to countdown, launch an iframe/html just fine.
But when its time for the recur options inside a post or page, it doesn’t seem to do it.
I put the countdown cycle at 1, minute, then recur sched to 1 minute but
after a minute (even 5 minutes) it didn’t go back to the countdown.
Any ideas?
Thx.
Hello.
Hey B !
When we use the old plugin, it works fine.
http:/fellowshipTV.com/
But when we deactivate the old to use the new, with nothing else changing,
two things: The timer doesn’t move (but does move on the old version, and
the HTML that we use to display an iFrame of live feed on launch as well as,
displaying a background image pre-launch does not display either.
(I eMailed you the exact code we use on the old version.)
We even tried just showing the widget version, and no go for a moving countdown.
I’m sure it is a jQuery thingy but where, since the old version worked fine.
Help. and THX !!!
r.lee.b
@Reuben: We just tested this on our test server that we use for… well… testing testable things. It tested well! Be sure you place your iframe code in the target html content area (using the html, not the visual editor). Connect your t-countdown post (cid/cslug/cname), use v.0.2a and you should be golden.
So, this is what I normally use:
[tminus t="12-08-2011 05:45" id="live-worship-feature-sbs" jsplacement="inline" style="jedi" omitweeks="true" launchheight="320" launchwidth="480" height="320" width="480" launchtarget="countdown"][/tminus]
So, I created a post with the countdown stuff I want, then ? Use a short code with the
added cid=”255″ (post number) in the old short code ? on any post/page/etc I want right?
@Reuben: Yes. You need to create a t-countdown post, and assign either the cid, cslug or cname attribute in the shortcode. Also, the old way of defining launch html (sandwiching content between the shortcode opening and closing tags) has been replaced using the following method:
In the t-countdown posts
1. Select a Launch Target in the Countdown Launch box.
a content editor should apear at the top
2. enter your target html in this area.
Also, be sure you are using v.0.2a, as this addresses an issue pertaining to shortcodes.
Cool!
We will give it a go!
Thx B Man !
